Billywigs are vividly-coloured insects that are native to Australia. About half an inch in size, Billywigs are sapphire blue and can fly at great speed by rotating their wings attached to the top of their heads. They have been said to be so fast that no one can see them until it is to late.

At the end of their body, they have a long, thin stinger, which has been known to cause extreme giddiness and levitation in humans. Some people have been stung to many times and had an uncontrollable flight that lasted for days. There have been rare cases where a severe allergic reaction may occur that causes permanent hovering.

Dried Billywig stingers are used in several potions and are said to be the secret ingredient in Fizzing Whizbees.
