I was not pleased at all that they cut the following scenes:
The scene with Harry basically throwing a tantrum (Though he admitedly has a right to be angry) in Dumbledore's office. Most of the scene in Snapes pensieve. And a few others. Little facts that I was annoyed they took out were: When Harry tried to use Cruicio (I think it's spellled wrong) and couldn't. In the book Bellatrix tells him he has to mean it, in the movie VOldemort does. The rooms in the department of myteries were a bit annoying since they only showed two. I wish Neville could have had a bigger part. In most movies the big problem is they can't fit it all in. So while my favorite book is the OotP my least favorite movie is the OotP.

I like it better the third one, but the first time I watched it I was a little disappointed. It was better after that, though, because I wasn't criticising everything that they did wrong, but just trying to enjoy it. I do think it rushed thru stuff too much though. I mean, Lord of the Rings books aren't as long as this book and the movies were close to 3 hours long each!

this movie was better than 3 or 4. I understand that they have to cut things out but it really makes me mad when they add things that weren't in the book like they did in 3 and 4. There were things I would have liked to see but all in all it wasn't too bad. The book itself was not one of the more exciting in the series although it was very neccesary for the finale. He did a pretty good job. Books 6&7 will be hard to make if they are going to keep the movies shorter.

I have mixed emotions about our latest installment of Harry Potter on the big screen. If you are a true Potter fan and have read th books like I have then I am sure that you 2 were upset about the way they left out soooo many important things and altogether changed others.
On the other hand it was exciting to see JK's words come to life as always. The fact that things are getting darker and how Harry is feeling that he is alone was told very well. Lets just hope that with The Half Blood Prince that the producers & the writers heed the words of the fans and make a better adaptation of it.

I was so dissapointed with "The Order of the Phoenix." The directors decision that the other Harry Potter movies were too long, and need to make this one "the shortest one" seriously damaged the story telling process. I'll admit I'm a Potter freak, and would watch a four hour long movie, if it meant they would not leave out what I consider to be signifigant facts. All of the movies had to omit things, I understand that, but this one omitted, changed, and re-wrote. And though I did like the darker look, and feel to the movie, they screwed up continuity as well. Anyone else have an issue with the Dursley house? The look of Aunt Petunia and Uncle Vernon?

Having seen and celebrated PHOENIX, I have a new outlook on the eternal debate of whether Harry will die by the end of the series. One can't help but think that Rowling's genius will defy any outcome we've predicted, but this film made me realize something quite new: it would be ironic if, by the end, Harry chose to live, and we felt disappointed. Who deserves a ride into the Grey Havens sunset more than this kid? Who deserves to be reunited with family and mentors more than someone who's been alone for years?
The acting in this film is the best yet--Radcliffe's vulnerability is evident in ALL shots, even when his angry alter-ego turns an icy shoulder to those he cares about. What I'd like to comment on most, however, is the sound design and the editing of this film, which actually reminded me more of Darren Aronofsky's REQUIEM FOR A DREAM than any film about a children's series. The occlumency lessons and the dream sequences were, I think, almost a leap forward from sitting alone with the book. David Yates and crew deserve nominations for this picture, especially the writing team who adapted the screenplay. Sadly, it will be years before the word "fantasy" is not the "f-word" of the industry, as Peter Jackson pointed out at the Oscars. Regardless of the success of RETURN OF THE KING, we still have a long way to go. --S. Howard |
